Demography

This section presents data on London’s demographics including indicators on total population change, international migration and the birth rate.

Official population estimates are published annually but with a significant lag. Alternative sources and indicators are presented here to provide more timely insights into recent trends.

The Economy and Labour Market

This section presents a summary of the latest indicators related to London’s economy, including metrics on:

• London’s economic output
• Consumer expenditure and confidence
• Foreign direct investment
• Business births and closures

It also provides a selection of indicators related to London’s labour market including:

• The number of jobs in London and a breakdown by sector
• Employment, unemployment and inactivity rates
  
• Job quality and low pay
  
• Skills attainment

Income, Poverty and Destitution

This section covers data about the related concepts of income, poverty and its most extreme form – destitution. Metrics are included on:

• Income inequality
• Means-tested benefits
• Relative poverty and persistent poverty
• Material deprivation
• Fuel poverty
• Food insecurity
• Personal insolvencies

Housing

This section provides a range of indicators relevant to the Mayor’s housing policy and strategy, including metrics related to:

• Homelessness and rough sleeping

The indicators covered here are all quarterly and recently updated, while the GLA’s annual Housing in London report provides a much larger set of indicators, including those reported annually and with a longer lag.

The Environment

This section provides information on the state of London’s environment with the latest available data on:

• Greenhouse gas emissions
  
• Nitrogen dioxide concentrations
• Particulate matter concentrations
• Household waste collected and recycling rates
• Energy efficiency of buildings
• Renewable energy generation in London

Communities

This section sets out trends in a range of measures related to communities in London including community participation and inclusion. Metrics are provided on:

Crime and Safety

This section provides a range of indicators related to crime and safety in London. It includes metrics on:

• Total notifiable offences
• Violence – both domestic and non-domestic
• Sexual offences
• Knife crime
• Homicide
• Acquisitive crime including theft, burglary and fraud
• Anti-social behaviour, harassment and safety after dark
• Satisfaction levels of reporting victims and public perception of the Metropolitan Police * Service

Transport and Digital Infrastructure

This section covers the state of London’s transport and digital infrastructure and changes in travel patterns since the pandemic. Metrics are included for::
