London Jobs Explorer

An overview of employee jobs by borough and sector in London, 1971–2024

Explore the dashboard

Introduction

This dashboard shows how London’s jobs have changed over time, with experimental estimates of employee jobs by sector for each borough from 1971 to 2024. It allows users to track long-term changes in the capital’s economy and compare how sectors have grown or declined across different parts of London.

The estimates are produced by GLA Economics and provide a consistent time series where official data are otherwise not available. They are aligned with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Workforce Jobs data.

About the data and methodology

The dataset provides borough-level estimates of employee jobs by sector, modelled by GLA Economics using ONS Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) and Workforce Jobs (WFJ) data.

Details of the modelling approach are available in the methodology page and the cover sheet of the accompanying Excel workbook.
